உறுதி

ஒரு கிராமத்தில் வில்வித்தையில் மிகவும் புகழ் பெற்ற ஒரு இளைஞன் இருந்தான்.

அதே ஊரின் எல்லையில் இருந்த காட்டுக்குள் ஒரு ஜென் துறவி வசித்து வருவதாகவும் அவர் இவனைவிட வில் வித்தையில் பெயர் பெற்றவர் என்பதும் அவனுக்குத் தெரியவந்தது.

இந்த உலகில் என்னைவிட யாரும் வில்வித்தையில் திறமை படைத்தவராக இருக்க முடியாது என்று மனதில் எண்ணிய படியே இது மாப்புடன் அவரைப் பார்க்கக் கிளம்பினான்.

அவரை பார்த்து, தன்னோடு வில் வித்தைப் போட்டியில் கலந்து கொள்ளுமாறு கேட்டுக் கொண்டான்.

அவர் அவனைப் பார்த்து புன்னகைத்தபடியே, " நான் சொல்லும் இடத்திற்கு வா, அங்கே போட்டியை வைத்துக் கொள்ளலாம்" என்று கூறினார்.

அவனும் அவர் கூறிய இடத்திற்குச் சென்றான்.

மலை உச்சிக்கு அவனை அழைத்துச் சென்றார். கீழே அதள பாதாளம். ஒரு அடி தவறினாலும் எலும்பு கூட கிடைக்காது. அப்படிப்பட்ட ஒரு இடத்தில் நின்றுகொண்டு அருகே இருந்த மரத்தில் உள்ள பழத்தைக் குறிவைத்து அடிக்கும்படி கூறினார்.

அவன் முயன்று பார்த்தான். கால்கள் லேசாக நடுங்கின குறி தவறியது.

தன்னுடைய தோல்வியை ஒப்புக் கொண்ட அவன், "நீங்கள் சரியாக அடித்து விடுவீர்களா?"என்று கேட்டான்.

அவர் ஒரே அம்பில் அந்தப் பழத்தைக் கொய்தார்.

அதற்குப் பிறகும் அவரை சோதிக்க எண்ணிய அவன் மேலே பறந்து செல்லும் பறவைகளில் ஒன்றைக் குறிப்பிட்டு அதை இலக்காக்கி வீழ்த்தும்படி கேட்டுக் கொண்டான்.

அவர் சரியாக அந்தப் பறவையை அடித்து வீழ்த்தினார்.

அதற்குமேல் அவரோடு தன்னால் போட்டியிட முடியாது என்பதைத் தெரிந்துகொண்ட அவன் அவரிடமே சீடனாக சேர்ந்துகொண்டான்.

In a village there was a young man who was very famous in archery.

 He came to know that there was a Zen monk living in the forest on the border of the same town who was more famous for archery than him.

 Thinking in his mind that no one in the world could be more skilled in archery than I am, he set out with Map to see him.

 He saw him and asked him to join him in the archery contest.

 He smiled at him and said, "Come where I tell you, and we can have a match there."
