அசிங்க வாத்துக்குஞ்சு (The ugly duckling)
ஒரு விவசாயிக்கு ஒரு வாத்து இருந்தது. அது பத்து முட்டைகளை இட்டது. விரைவில், அவை அனைத்தும் குஞ்சுபொரித்தன.
பத்தில் ஒன்பது வாத்து குஞ்சுகள் அம்மாவைப் போல் இருந்தன.
பத்தாவது பெரியதாகவும், சாம்பல் நிறத்துடன் அசிங்கமாக இருந்தது. மற்ற வாத்துக்கள் அனைத்தும் அந்த அசிங்க வாத்தை கேலி செய்தன.
இப்படியே நாட்கள் நகர்ந்தன, வாத்து குஞ்சுங்களும் வளர ஆரம்பித்தன. ஆனால், அந்த அசிங்க வாத்தில் உள்ள அனைத்தும் இறகுகளும் உதிர தொடங்கின.
அதனால் அந்த வாத்து மனஉடைந்து, வெளியே எங்கும் செல்லாமல் இருந்தது. இதை வைத்து மற்ற வாத்துக்கள் ரெம்ப கேலிச் செய்தன. இதனால் தற்கொலைச் செய்துக் கொள்ள ஆற்றரங்கரைக்கு சென்றது.
ஆனால், அது ஆற்றில் தனது பிம்பத்தைப் பார்த்தது. அப்பொழுதுதான் அது வாத்துயில்லை ஒரு அன்னம் என்பதை உணர்ந்தது. அதைப் பார்த்த மற்ற வாத்துக்கள் தன் தவறை உணர்ந்தன.

A farmer had a duck. It laid ten eggs. Soon, they all hatched.
Nine out of ten ducklings looked like their mother.
The tenth was large and gray and ugly. All the other geese mocked the ugly goose.
Days passed like this and the ducklings started growing. But all the feathers on that ugly duckling started falling out.
So the duck was disheartened and did not go anywhere outside. The other geese made fun of this. Due to this, he went to the river bank to commit suicide.
But, it saw its reflection in the river. Only then did he realize that it was not a duck but a swan. The other geese saw it and realized their mistake.
