எலியின் கர்வம் (The pride of the rat)
அடர்ந்த காட்டுப் பகுதியில் புல் மேய்ந்துக் கொண்டிந்தது. அங்குள்ள சிறிய பொந்தில் ஒரு எலி ஒன்று வசித்து வந்தது. அது கொஞ்சம் தற்பெருமை குணம் கொண்டது. அந்த எலியும், குதிரையும் நல்ல நண்பர்கள்.
தினமும் குதிரை புல் மேய்ய வரும்போது எலியை சந்தித்து பேசிவிட்டு செல்லும். அப்போது எலி தன் அருமை பெருமை எல்லாம் அள்ளி விடும். " நான் மிகவும் வலிமையானவன். பாறையையே துளைத்து வளை அமைத்துவிடுவேன். என்னை யாராலும் ஒன்றும் செய்ய முடியாது.
ஒரு நாள் எலியும், குதிரையும் கொஞ்சம் தூரத்தில் சென்று மேய்ந்து வர முடிவு செய்தன. இரண்டும் பேசிக் கொண்டே நடந்தன.
அப்போது, 'நான் தான் உன்னை வழி நடத்தி செல்வேன்.
நான் சண்டையில் அவனை வீழித்தியிருக்கிறேன், இவனை வீழித்தியிருக்கிறேன்' என்று தம்பட்டம் அடித்துக் கொண்டே முன் சென்றது எலி.
திடீரென்று எலி பேசமால் நின்றது, 'ஏன் நின்றுவிட்டாய்? தொடர்ந்து செல்' என்றது குதிரை. 'உனக்கு கண் சரியாக தெரியாதா? எதிரே பார் ஆறு ஓடுகிறது, எப்படி கடட்டது?' என்று கேட்டது எலி.
'அது ஆறா? சிறிய கால்வாய் தானே இருக்கிறது. எளிதாக கடந்து விடலாம்' என்றது குதிரை, ' குதிரையே இது கால்வாயா? எனக்கு ஆறு போல்தான் தெரிகிறது.
இறங்கினால் நிச்சயம் தண்ணீர் அடித்துச் சென்றுவிடும். நாம் இரண்டு பேரும் மூழ்கி விடுவோம்' என்றது எலி.
குதிரை எலியின் பேச்சை கண்டுக் கொள்ளாமல் கால்வாயில் இறங்கியது.
'ஏய் எலியே, என் முழங்கால் அளவு கூட தண்ணீர் இல்லை. இதைப் போய் நீ ஆறு என்கிறாய், உடனே இறங்கி வா?' என்றது குதிரை.
நண்பா உனக்கு வேண்டுமானால், இது குறைந்த தண்ணீராக இருக்கலாம். ஆனால், என் உருவத்திற்கு இது நதிப் போலதான் இருக்கிறது.
தயவுச் செய்து என்னை உன் முதுகில் ஏற்றி அக்கரையில் விடு. நான் என்னைப் பற்றி கர்வத்துடன் பேசியதை மறந்துவிடு என்று மன்னிப்புக் கேட்டது.
அதற்கு குதிரை, எலியே நீ என் நண்பன். நீ பேசியதை நான் ரசிக்க செய்தேன் தவிர, தவறாக நினைக்கவில்லை. இனியும் வீண் பெருமை பேசி வாழதே என்றது.
எலியை, தன் முதுகில் ஏற்றி அக்கரையில் விட்டது குதிரை. அதன் பின்பு இரண்டும் கர்வமின்றி நல்ல நண்பர்களாக வாழ்ந்தன.
Grass grazed in the dense forest. A rat lived in a small pond there. It's a bit pretentious. The rat and the horse are good friends.

It can be less water if you want it buddy. But to my image it is like a river.

To which the horse said, O mouse, you are my friend. I enjoyed what you had to say, no offense. He said to live with vain boasting.
The horse carried the mouse on its back and left it on the shore. After that both lived as good friends without pride.
