24 ரொட்டித் துண்டுகள் (24 slices of bread)

மூன்று நண்பர்கள், அவர்கள் ஒரு நாள் வேலை விஷயமாக வெளியூர்க்கு செல்கிறார்கள்.

இரவு பொழுது ஆகிறது ஆகவே மூவரும் ஒர் இடத்தில் தங்க நேரிகிறது. மூவருக்கும் நல்ல பசியுடன் இருந்தார்கள்.

ஆனால் மூன்று பேரில் ஒருவரிடம் உணவில்லை மற்ற இருவரிடம் மொத்தம் எட்டு ரெட்டித் துண்டுகள் இருந்தன.

அதை மூவரும் ஒவ்வொரு ரொட்டித் துண்டை மூன்றாக பிரித்தன் மூலம் மொத்தம் இருபத்திநான்கு ரொட்டி துண்டுகள் இருந்தன.

அதை மூவரும் ஆளுக்கு எட்டாக பிரித்து உண்டனர். பின்பு ஒரு அவசர வேலையின் நிமித்தமாக உணவு எடுத்துவராத நபர் தன்னிடமிருந்த எட்டு தங்க நாணயங்களை அந்த இரண்டு பேரிடம் கொடுத்து சமமாக பிரித்துக் கொள்ளும் படி கூறி சென்று விட்டார்.

அதில் ஒருவர் நான் ஐந்து ரொட்டித் துண்டுகள்  கொடுத்தால் எனக்கு ஐந்து நாணயங்களும், நீ மூன்று ரொட்டித் துண்டுகள் கொடுத்தால் உனக்கு மூன்று நாணயங்கள் என பிரித்துக் கொள்ளுவோம் என்றார்.

அதற்கு அந்த மூன்று ரொட்டித் துண்டுக் கொடுத்த நபர் ஒத்துக்கொள்ளவில்லை.

இதை சரி பாதியாக பிரிக்க வேண்டும் என்றார்.

இதனால் இருவருக்கும் வாக்குவாதம் ஆகி, ஊர் பஞ்சாயத்துக்குச் சென்றன. அவர்கள் இருவரும் அந்த பஞ்சாயத்து தலைவரிடம் தங்கள் நியாயங்களை முறையிட்டனர்.

அவரும் நன்கு யோசித்து ஐந்து ரொட்டித் துண்டு கொடுத்தவருக்கு ஏழு நானயங்களும். மூன்று ரொட்டித் துண்டு கொடுத்த நபருக்கு ஒரு நாணயமும் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள் என்று தீர்ப்பளித்தார்.

அந்த சபையில் அது எப்படி என்று கேள்வி எழுந்தன. அதற்கு அந்த தலைவர் ஐந்து ரொட்டித் துண்டை ஒரு துண்டை மூன்றாக பிரித்தால், ஐந்துக்கு, பதினைந்து துண்டுகள் வருகின்றன. அதைப்போல் மூன்று ரொட்டிகளை பிரித்தால் ஒன்பது துண்டுகள் வருகின்றன.

அதில் பதினைந்து துண்டு வைத்திருந்தவர் தனக்கு எட்டும் மீதம் உள்ள ஏழு துண்டை கொடுத்தார்.  ஒன்பது துண்டு வைத்திருந்தவர் தனக்கு எட்டும் மீதம் ஒன்றை கொடுத்தார். ஆகையால் ஏழுத்துண்டை கொடுத்த நபருக்கு, ஏழு நாணயமும், ஒன்றை கொடுத்த நபருக்கு ஒரு நாணயமும் வரும் என்று விளக்கிக் கூறினார்.

நீதி: "காற்று உள்ள போதே தூற்றிக் கொள்"என்பார்கள்.

 He also thought well and gave seven coins to the one who gave five loaves of bread. He ruled that the person who gave three loaves of bread should also take a coin.

 In that assembly, the question arose as to how it was. If the leader divides the five pieces of bread into three pieces, the five pieces become fifteen pieces. Similarly if you divide three loaves of bread you get nine pieces.

 The one who had fifteen of them gave the remaining seven. The one who had the nine pieces gave him the remaining one. So he explained that the person who gave seven pieces would get seven coins and the person who gave one would get one coin.
