அறிஞரின் பகட்டு
ஒருமுறை அண்டை நாட்டிலிருந்து ஒரு அறிஞர் அக்பரின் அரசவைக்கு வருகிறார். அரசரை வணங்கி, தன்னை ஒரு புத்திசாலி என்றும் தனது கேள்விகளுக்கு யாராலும் பதில் சொல்லமுடியாது என்றும் அவர் அறிமுகப்படுத்தினார்.
இங்கே மிக சிறந்த அறிஞர்கள் இருப்பதாகவும், அவர்கள் என் கேள்விகளுக்கு பதில்ளிக்கும்படி சவால் விடுகிறார்.
மேலும் அவர் மிகவும் புத்திசாலி என்பதை நிரூபிக்க: " நூறு எளிதான கேள்விகளுக்கு பதிலளிக்க விரும்புகிறீர்களா அல்லது கடினமான ஒரு கேள்விக்கு பதிலளிக்க விரும்புகிறர்களா?" என்று பகட்டான தொனியில் அறிஞர் கூறினார்.
அறிஞர் பீர்பாலையையும், தம் மற்ற அறிஞர்களையும் சிறுமைப்படுத்த விரும்புவதை உணர்ந்த அக்பர், பீர்பாலைப் பார்த்து உற்று நோக்கினார்.
பீர்பாலும் தன் அரசரின் பார்வையை புரிந்துக் கொண்டு.
பீர்பால் எழுந்து அந்த அறிஞரிடம் "என்னிடம் ஒரே ஒரு கடினமான கேள்வியைக் கேளுங்கள்" என்று நம்பிக்கையுடன் பதிலளித்தார்.
" சரி. முதலில் வந்தது கோழகோழியா முட்டையா செசொல்லுங்க? " என்று பகட்டான தொனியில் கேட்கிறார் அறிஞர்.
அதற்கு பீர்பால் "கோழி"என்று பதிலளிக்கிறார்.
" உங்களுக்கு எப்படி தெரியும்?" என்று கேலியாகக் கேட்கிறார் அறிஞர்.
" நீங்கள் ஏற்கனவே சொன்னீர்கள் ஒரே ஒரு கடினமான கேள்வியை நீங்கள் கேட்பீர்கள் என்று நாங்கள் ஒப்புக்கொண்டோம்" பீர்பால் பதிலளித்தார்.
Once a scholar from a neighboring country came to Akbar's court. Bowing to the king, he introduced himself as a sage and no one could answer his questions.
He says that there are great scholars here and challenges them to answer my questions.
And to prove he's really smart: "Would you rather answer a hundred easy questions or one hard one?" said the scholar in a pompous tone.
Realizing that the scholar wanted to belittle Birbal and his fellow scholars, Akbar glared at Birbal.
Birbal also understood his king's point of view.
Birbal got up and confidently replied to the scholar, "Ask me just one tough question."
"Okay. Tell me which came first, the chicken or the egg?" asks the scholar in an elegant tone.
To which Birbal replies "chicken".
"How do you know?" Asks the scholar mockingly.
"You have already said that we agreed that you will ask only one difficult question" replied Birbal.
